LEAKED! iPad Air, Retina iPad Mini’s India Prices

Apple is set to officially launch the iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina display in the Indian market on December 7. Though the company has revealed the prices of the base variant of the two tablets, it has remained silent on the prices of other models. Mumbai-based mobile retailer Mahesh Telecom has, however, revealed the prices of all the models of iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina display.
According to the post, Apple will stock both iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina display with Indian retailers in the next 2-4 days. The company is holding a launch event in New Delhi on December 7. Following are the prices of the new iPads as per a Facebook post by the retailer:

iPad Air
Storage Wi-Fi only Wi-Fi + 4G
16GB Rs 35,900 Rs 44,900
32GB Rs 42,900 Rs 51,900
64GB Rs 49,900 Rs 58,900
128GB Rs 56,900 Rs 65,900

iPad Mini with Retina Display
Storage Wi-Fi only Wi-Fi + 4G
16GB Rs 28,900 Rs 37,900
32GB Rs 35,900 Rs 44,900
64GB Rs 42,900 Rs 51,900
128GB Rs 49,900 Rs 58,900

iPad Air and iPad with Retina display are much more expensive than rival tablets running on Android operating system. Sony's Xperia Tablet Z with 16GB internal storage is available at Rs 41,400, it supports microSD cards up to 32GB; on the other hand, the 16GB Wi-Fi + 4G iPad Air model offers no expandable storage and costs Rs 44,900.

Similarly, iPad Air's 32GB Wi-Fi + 4G model (without microSD storage) is priced at Rs 51,900, whereas the corresponding Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 edition) variant with 64GB microSD support is available in the market at Rs 46,900.

iPad mini with Retina display furthers the price divide between Apple and Android tablets even more. Google Nexus 7 32GB Wi-Fi + 4G model is priced at 27,999, compared to the corresponding Retina iPad mini model that costs Rs 44,900. Samsung Galaxy Note 510 with 16GB storage, 64GB microSD support and 3G costs Rs 30,000; in comparison, the 16GB Wi-Fi + 4G Retina iPad mini costs Rs 37,900.

There are no Android tablets with 64 and 128GB storage options in the Indian market. These prices make both iPad Air and Retina iPad mini the most expensive options in their respective segments.

With the launch of the new iPads, Apple has increased (rather than lower) the prices of its older tablets. It has listed the two-year-old iPad 2's Wi-Fi variant at Rs 28,900, up Rs 4,400 from its price tag before the prices of new iPads were revealed. Its Wi-Fi + 3G model is now available at Rs 37,900, compared to its previous price tag of Rs 32,900, an increase of Rs 5,000.

iPad mini's Wi-Fi and cellular model now costs Rs 30,900, up Rs 1,000 in comparison to its earlier price. Apple has, however, not revised the price of its Wi-Fi-only version; it still costs Rs 21,900 and remains the cheapest iPad model in Apple's portfolio.
