Review : D for Dopidi – B for Boring

Rating : 2.75/5
Director :Siraj Kalla
Producer :Krishna D.K, Raj Nidimoru, Nani
Music Director :Mahesh Shankar
Starring : Varun Sandesh, Sundeep Kishan, Naveen, Rakesh..

The crime comedy ‘D for Dopidi’ has released today across the state. The movie has been directed by Siraj Kalla. Sundeep Kishan, Varun Sandesh, Naveen, Rakesh and Melanie Kannokada have essayed the lead roles in the film. Raj & DK are the producers of this movie and popular hero Nani has come in as a co-producer at a later stage. Dil Raju is distributing the film all over the state. Let us check out this movie now.

Story :

Raju (Sundeep Kishan), Vicky (Varun Sandesh), Harish (Naveen) and Bannu (Rakesh) are good friends. They have their own issues in life and they all need money badly. Raju is a wannabe film hero. Vicky is deep in debt and he needs money to ward off recovery agents. Harish and Bannu need money in order to settle down with the women they love.

To get rid of all these issues, they decide to rob a bank. They watch a lot of heist dramas, procure fake weapons and finally muster the courage to storm ‘National Bank’ in Manikonda area. The plan seems to work initially, but like all ‘well laid’ plans, it does not account for unexpected twists.

Raju, Vicky and his friends are forced to deal with cops and unexpected guests. What happens in the end? Will they succeed in escaping with the money? That is what ‘D for Dopidi’ is all about.

Plus Points :

Nani’s voice over sets up the characters nicely. His promotional song comes after the climax and it has been shot well. Deva Katta looks good as an ACP. Sundeep Kishan and Varun Sandesh have done a good job with what was given to them. Melanie Kannokada is just about ok.

Tanikella Bharani is good. The first half has a few funny moments.

Minus Points :

B for Boring and S for Silly. That is what most people will probably say after they walk out of the theater. A heist drama must have one of two qualities to work at the Box Office. It should either be riveting or hilarious. ‘D for Dopidi’ has neither a gripping screenplay nor entertainment.

The film drags on an on, especially in the second half. The bank robbery scenes have been handled quite poorly. Tanikella Bharani’s motive for robbing a bank is very silly. The climax block is quite immature. Even if we assume that ‘Stockholm Syndrome’ has come into play, the emotional bonding between the hostages and the robbers has not been handled effectivelyfor this to work.

Logic goes for a big toss in the movie and a lot of unexplained holes are present in the script.

Technical Aspects :

Cinematography is very average. Editing could have been much better. Mahesh Shankar’s music is just about ok. Dialogues are very average and they fail to make a strong impression on viewers.

Sriraj Kalla’s direction is not up to the mark. It is quite tough to handle a subject like this and the director’s lack of experience shows. Production values are ok.

Verdict :

‘D for Dopidi’ is a film which falls into no man’s land. It neither appeals to serious crime dramalovers nor to casual entertainment seekers. Poor execution has spoilt a promising subject and turned it into in a boring flick. Except for some decent performances and the presence of people like Nani, Tanikella Bharani and Deva Katta, this movie has nothing much to offer.

Positive buzz around D for Dopidi

Sundeep Kishan and Varun Sandesh starer D for Dopidi is carrying positive buzz even before its release. The movie is screened to selected set of audience and the movie unit yesterday in a multiplex in Vishakapatnam and the movie unit is overwhelmed with the response. Similar premieres will be held in Vijayawada on 22nd and Hyderabad on 24th. The movie is all set to release on December 25th as Christmas special.
Actor Nani was bowled over with the movie and bought a stake in it. He even acted in a promotional song for the movie. Dil Raju watched the film and is releasing the movie in the entire state through his own distribution firm. Further positivity is added when Gemini TV bagged the TV rights of the movie for a record price (for a small film). All the best to entire team!

It’s romance vs comedy tomorrow

As the year comes close to an end for Tollywood slowly, the bleak time span will see some interesting movies releasing till December. Slated for the opening tomorrow are two such films at Box Office – Venkatadri Express (Comedy) and Raja Rani (Romance)
The Sundeep Kishan Rakul Preet starrer Venkatadri Express is an out an out comedy with entertaining element to look forward to. Sundeep, who is slowly rising to better roles in films will be seen playing an interesting young man with a motive in the film.  Directed by Merlapaka Gandhi, the project boasts of editing by the likes of Gautham Raju and editing by Chota K Naidu. It remains to be seen if Venkatadri Express manages to create an impact with audience.
Releasing parallel is Raja Rani, a dubbed version of Tamil blockbuster. The movie which has already become a Kollywood superhit is an interesting story of two individuals who get caught up with each other due to circumstances. Produced by celebrated director A R Murugadoss, the film has Arya and Nayanthara playing the leading roles, whose acting proved remarkably well at Box Office in Tamil film industry. The film has capability to strike it off with the audience in Telugu as it has all the known stars and actors with a connecting story line.  Raja Rani is one of the few films to be distributed by Hollywood house, Fox Star Studios.

Mahesh Movie Review

Rating: 1/5 stars
Star cast: Sundeep Kishan, Dimple Chopade,
Producer: Suresh Kondeti, Director: Gopi Sundar
What Is Good: Jagan’s character and One Liners, Picturization of couple of songs
What Is Bad: No logic in Screenplay, Second Half, Sudden end, Editing and Direction
Boring Scenes: No. of Mahesh’s in the movie Sundeep meet
Watch It or Not?: NO.
 Story
A Happy go Lucky Engineering student Shiva (Sundeep Kishan) falls in love with classmate Sandya (Dimple Chopde) in Engineering final year. Shiva impresses Sandya in an Industrial tour and gets married with her. But things turn around suddenly when Mahesh character is introduced in Shiva’s life. Shiva with the help of his friend Vasanth (Jagan) undergo a quest of finding Mahesh identity forms the rest of the crux part.
StarPerformances
In the acting department apart from Jagan no one has made an impression. He carries the film on his shoulders and he impresses with his funny character. It is painful to see actor with potential like Sundeep Kishan is being wasted in such good for nothing character. Actress Dimple Chopde impresses with looks but have nothing much to do with the limited script. Sana Oberai sizzled in the item number. Rest of the characters such as Livingston, Vijay, Srinath, Uma Padhmanabhan, Swaminathan, Singamuthu, Nellai Siva and Venkat Sundar are supportive with their characters.
Direction, Music & Technical Aspects
The script lacks imagination and it is predictable too. With a weak script in hands, debutante, R.Madhan Kumar has nothing special to offer apart from few sexual gags. Major loop hole in the movie is Dimple is said to be heart throb of the college guys. Whereas Sundeep hasn’t seen the girl in his first three years of his engineering life. The length of the film doesn't work in its favour either, and you feel that at least a good fifteen minutes could be chopped off without doing the film any harm. Climax is a big letdown. Raana’s cinematography is neat, especially his work in Maadi Musi and Oorike Vayasu songs are praise worthy. Music by Gopi Sunder (National Award film Usthad Hotel fame) is adequate. Background Score is loud, which could have been easily tone downed. There are too many close up shots in Mahesh, the Telugu dubbing might annoy you with no lip sync.
Analysis
Mahesh is the story of a young man Shiva who suspects that his wife’s courtesan is Mahesh and his search of this man. Movie has okay storyline and stupid twist but suffers from a serious lack of all the necessary extremities that could have keep movie running in full throttle. And even if you are someone looking for adult gags that would keep you keep you engaged for a couple of hours, you are likely to be in for a huge disappoint.
Bottom Line : “Maheshhhh” cinema tho Mathi pothundi
